DocuStrata on your desktop.
Point it at the folder your scanner writes to, and every page that lands there is read and filed. Search the archive from any app with one shortcut. It lives in the menu bar and stays out of the way.

macOS
Apple Silicon, macOS 12 or later
Download .dmgFirst launch. The build isn't signed yet, so macOS will object once. Copy the app to Applications, right-click it, choose Open, then Open again. If macOS says the app is damaged, run xattr -cr /Applications/DocuStrata.app in Terminal and open it normally. Signed builds will retire this step.
Windows
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
Download .exeFirst launch. SmartScreen will say the publisher is unknown. Click More info, then Run anyway. It's the standard warning for an unsigned installer, not a detection.
You don't have to install anything. Everything in the archive is in the browser, on any machine, with the same account.
Open the appThe parts a browser can't do.
The archive, the questions and the answers are the same as on the web. The desktop app adds what needs to live on your machine.
Watch folders
Choose the folder your scanner or copier saves to. Each new PDF or image is picked up, read, and filed where you said, with a notification when it lands. Watch as many folders as you like.
Search from anywhere
Press ⌘ Shift K on a Mac or Ctrl Shift K on Windows, from any app, and the archive is in front of you.
Menu bar
It runs quietly in the menu bar or system tray: what's being watched, what's come in, and a click to open the archive.
Evernote export
Migrate from Evernote reads an .enex export of any size and turns notebooks into folders, with duplicates skipped.
Three steps.
Install and sign in
Run the installer and sign in with the same account you use on the web. Your archive is already there.
Add a watch folder
File, then Add Watch Folder. Pick the folder your scanner writes to and the DocuStrata folder it should file into.
Let it run
Close the window and it stays in the menu bar. New scans are read as they arrive. The shortcut brings the archive up from any app.
- Do I need the desktop app?
- No. Everything in the archive works in the browser. The desktop app adds watch folders, the global shortcut, the menu bar and the Evernote migrator. Same account, same documents.
- Where does the reading happen?
- On DocuStrata's servers, through the same pipeline as the web app. The desktop app moves files; it doesn't read them. What we do with your documents is set out on the security page.
- Why does my computer warn me about the installer?
- The builds aren't code-signed yet, and both operating systems flag unsigned apps. It's a warning about the signature, not a detection. The first-launch notes above are all that's needed. Signed and notarized builds will remove the step.
- How do updates work?
- On Windows the app updates itself and installs on the next restart. On a Mac, download the new disk image from this page when one ships; in-place updates arrive with the signed builds. The web app is always current.
- Is there an Intel Mac build?
- Not yet. The Mac build is for Apple Silicon. On an Intel Mac, use the browser.
- Can it import an Evernote export?
- Yes. File, then Migrate from Evernote, and pick the .enex file. Exports of any size are read as a stream. The migration page has the details.
